About Jane

Jane attended Farnham School of Art between 1969 and 1973 where she studied ceramics under the tutelage of some of the world's most highly regarded potters. Jane was tutored by Mo Jupp and worked alongside David Leach and Gwyn Hanssen. On graduating, Jane was awarded the L-SDC, a licenciateship by the Society of Designer Craftsmen of Great Britain, assessed by Alan Caiger-Smith.

 

Throughout the 1970s Jane travelled the length and breadth of the UK selling her work at craft fairs and festivals. In 1972 Jane worked in the artists' village of Ein Hod in Israel where she was inspired by the sights and sounds of the Middle East. Jane later went on to run an open workshop at the Albany, a community project in Deptford, South East London, sponsored by the Greater London Council and the Gulbenkian Foundation.

 

In 2010 Jane made the ultimate 'potter's pilgrimage' to Japan where she visited the potteries of Bizen, Hagi and Mashiko. Here she rediscovered the old masters who had so strongly influenced the English ceramic scene of the 1960s and 1970s, along with a thriving contemporary ceramic community.

 

Jane has always been inspired by her environment, most particularly its architecture and landscape. Since her move to Puglia in 2007, the distinctive buildings and vegetation of he region have provided endless inspiration.
